Imagination supports satellite HD radio
Imagination Technologies is driving into the US radio market with technology on a chip developed in Chepstow.
Its Ensigma UCCP Series3 digital radio platform no supports the digital radio standard for the USA, iBiquity Digital’s HD Radio Technology. The addition of HD Radio Technology to Imagination’s global digital and connected radio platform makes it the ideal multi-standard solution for devices targeting Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.
“We expect this latest extension of our global radio platform, with support for key standards such as HD Radio Technology, to further our reach into the radio and audio markets and help leading brands in digital radio to reach wider markets more effectively,” said Tony King-Smith, VP marketing at Imagination. “We are delighted to be working with iBiquity on this ground-breaking new development and to bring HD Radio capabilities to existing UCCP Series3 cores as well as future generation products.”
Imagination’s ENSIGMA UCC Series3 programmable radio processing units (RPU) support worldwide TV and radio reception as well as important connectivity standards such as Wi-Fi – all running on the same silicon engine in software. Over 20 standards are supported on the latest core, UCCP330, which will also be capable of supporting HD Radio Technology.
