Launch of nationwide Discovering Start-Ups 2013 competition

If you are a start-up and are looking to showcase your technology to potential investors and large multi-nationals, then we urge you to enter the Discovering Start-Ups 2013 Competition now.

The 15 finalists of this national competition will have the opportunity to pitch to an elite panel of judges drawn from the wireless sector and investment community, and win some fantastic prizes. Previous winners have received national press coverage and have gone on to enter and win a European competition, as a result of being discovered via this competition.

The closing date for entries is 15 August and the competition will take place on 30 September 2013, at the prestigious London offices of Taylor Wessing, and provides a platform for you to pitch your start-up company to 20 leading wireless industry investors, VCs and global corporate leaders including: BT, Google, Orange Labs, Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung, Vodafone Ventures, Cambridge Angels and NESTA.

Jointly run by Cambridge Wireless and Silicon South West, and supported by TechCity UK. The event is kindly sponsored by Qualcomm Ventures, Google, Rohde & Schwarz, SETsquared, Microlease/Agilent Technologies and Taylor Wessing, who will host this event at their prestigious offices in London.

Five winners will receive a total prize fund worth £4000.

– This includes a £500 cash prize for each winner, kindly sponsored by Qualcomm Ventures

– A free virtual membership to SETsquared, with business acceleration support

– A free membership to Cambridge Wireless, to help the start-ups to network and collaborate with the industry

– A free ticket to the Future of Wireless International Conference 2014, providing the opportunity to interact with international technology leaders

The organisers will also provide ongoing support to all entrants through valuable promotion through PR. So the sooner you enter, the more you benefit.

“In its fourth year, Discovering Start-Ups is now recognised as one of the leading UK-wide showcases for the very best in wireless innovation and provides a great opportunity for budding entrepreneurs and new businesses to get noticed,”  said UBIC Director, Simon Bond.   “Any ambitious mobile start-up should jump at the chance to get in front of such a line-up of much sought-after investors and industry experts.”

Last year’s winning technologies included silicon carbide power semiconductors; a new software design automation system; a mobile-phone based service to detect skin cancer; a radical single-antenna for portable devices; and a web service to find and share information and resources.
