Companies now selected for 3rd Silicon Gorge Investor Showcase
Venturefest Bristol and Bath is giving 12 innovative startups the once in a lifetime opportunity of pitching to top investors from all over the UK
As part of innovation showcase Venturefest Bristol and Bath on 9 June, inward investment agency Invest Bristol & Bath is holding an Investor Showcase, run by Silicon Gorge Partners including TechSPARK and tech incubator SETSquared, to show off some of the region’s best startups to top investors from all over the UK. And we’re excited to announce that the companies for the 3rd Silicon Gorge Investor Showcase are now selected.
This investor showcase had the largest number of applications so far with over 40 companies competing to take part in the process. The successful companies will be pitching to a room full of investors, with the aim of seeking investment and showcasing the great companies from the region.
Thorough selection process applied to potential pitchers
In order to cut these 40 companies down to the 10-12 to present to investors on the day, and to ensure that the pitches are of value to the visiting investors, there was a rigorous selection process. This saw the initial applications reviewed and 24 of the companies selected to take part in pitching competitions which were held last week.
“I feel confident we have chosen some great opportunities for all types of investors, from angel to VC”
The judges are experienced entrepreneurs within the region, and included Paul Cross from software consultancy and tech incubator Rocketmakers, Andrew Mulvenna Co-founder of retail software creators Brightpearl, Mike Jackson from the world’s first crowd-funded web incubator Webstart, Rosie Bennett, Entrepreneur in residence at the University of Bath Innovation Centre and also senior representatives from KPMG and SETSquared.
Mike Jackson tells us, “Choosing from the great range of companies that applied for the limited places at the Venturefest Investor Showcase was a really hard job and I feel confident we have chosen some great opportunities for all types of investors, from angel to VC.”
The 12 companies selected provide a great cross section of tech startups from across the region, and the companies are looking for a range of money from £50k up to £1.5m with products including a unified performance analysis tool for mobile devices, a platform for crowd-funding travel, ecommerce for emerging markets and learning apps for both children and adults.
“I’m looking forward to meeting some great early stage tech companies
that are addressing big global market opportunities”
Pitching at the showcase
On the day the companies will be pitching to a room full of Angel and Venture Capital investors from the Bristol & Bath region, London and the wider UK. There will also be questions coming from an experienced panel of investors including Charles Grimsdale from Eden Ventures – whose investments include successful analytics platform Acunu and website builder Basekit.
This part of Venturefest is open only to investors and is invite only. For more information contact email@example.com.
What else will be happening at Venturefest?
Venturefest is not just about the Investor Showcase though, it will also give you the chance to meet and network with some of the best local tech startups and business minds in the region with a Startup Village and a Thought Leadership Conference– all in one day!
The event will also have a particular focus on the role of innovation in sustainability and green technology as Bristol celebrates its year as European Green Capital.
