As part of innovation showcase Venturefest Bristol and Bath on 9 June, inward investment agency Invest Bristol & Bath is holding an Investor Showcase, run by Silicon Gorge Partners including TechSPARK and tech incubator SETSquared, to show off some of the region’s best startups to top investors from all over the UK. And we’re excited to announce that the companies for the 3rd Silicon Gorge Investor Showcase are now selected.

This investor showcase had the largest number of applications so far with over 40 companies competing to take part in the process. The successful companies will be pitching to a room full of investors, with the aim of seeking investment and showcasing the great companies from the region.

Thorough selection process applied to potential pitchers

In order to cut these 40 companies down to the 10-12 to present to investors on the day, and to ensure that the pitches are of value to the visiting investors, there was a rigorous selection process. This saw the initial applications reviewed and 24 of the companies selected to take part in pitching competitions which were held last week.

“I feel confident we have chosen some great opportunities for all types of investors, from angel to VC”

The companies pitched over two nights – at the Pervasive Media Studio in Bristol and theUniversity of Bath Innovation Centre, with a panel of 5 judges responsible for choosing the final 12.

Expert judges

The judges are experienced entrepreneurs within the region, and included Paul Cross from software consultancy and tech incubator Rocketmakers, Andrew Mulvenna Co-founder of retail software creators Brightpearl, Mike Jackson from the world’s first crowd-funded web incubator Webstart, Rosie Bennett, Entrepreneur in residence at the University of Bath Innovation Centre and also senior representatives from KPMG and SETSquared.

Mike Jackson tells us, “Choosing from the great range of companies that applied for the limited places at the Venturefest Investor Showcase was a really hard job and I feel confident we have chosen some great opportunities for all types of investors, from angel to VC.”
